Turkey Season is in Full Gobble! This morning (and there's still time left) we had 4 birds harvested - two by youth hunters! Check out the Turkey Trophy page to see them all.
Youth Turkey Hunt Day is a Success! It started out cold and rainy, but that didn't stop our 10 young hunters from getting into the woods. Everyone got to hear or see turkeys and two were able to bag a bird! All hunters, parents, and guides had a great time followed by a prepared lunch by our volunteers and staff. Thanks to Kyle Donaldson for his tireless efforts to organize and make this day happen. Thanks to the guides who volunteered their time scouting and taking the hunters afield. This wouldn’t be possible without the cooperation of the Patuxent Research Refuge staff, Tarik, Sasha, and Jennifer. And a big thanks to Bass Pro Shops for sponsoring the event and providing each youth hunter with a gift bag that included a turkey decoy and caller.
In Memoriam. It is with heavy hearts that we say farewell to John Green, Jr. "Mr. Green," as he was known to many, peacefully passed away on Friday April 11. Mr. Green was a pillar of the MNHA community and a true steward of the Patuxent Research Refuge. He was a model sportman and wildlife conservationist supporting MNHA and managed our Farmers and Hunter Feed the Hungry program for many years. His presence will be missed at the hunting control station. May he rest in peace.

We want your help to maintain and improve the refuge hunting habitat. Our monthly maintenance days are great opportunities to give back to the PRR and the MNHA hunting community and meet fellow hunters. Read more on the Volunteer Opportunities page or contact us at VolunteerCoordinator@mnha.net.
Please close ALL gates! So long as the metal or wooden gates are unlocked, you may open them, drive through, and immediately close the gate behind you.
These gates keep the general public from driving where they should not be. It's a safety issue - recently we had a general visitor walking around Lake Allen while the ranges were active.
If you come upon an open gate, please close it.
The refuge staff and law enforcement appreciate your cooperation.
Please note the "car prohibited" symbols on the signs next to the gates. Hunters are permitted to go through these gates.
Report Dead Animals, Trail Cameras, and Unexploded Ordinance (UXO). Please report recent dead animals (deer, fox, turkey, coyotes, etc.). A picture and GPS coordinates are extremely helpful. You can screenshot your map, compass, or GPS app. This helps the USFWS biologist to monitor the health of the refuge animals.
